STEPH GUILLÉN · THE UNCIVILIZED ARTIST

Artist. Witness. Unfinished accomplice.

A multidisciplinary art practice in the uneasy space between ecological devotion and political refusal.

Steph Guillén is a multidisciplinary artist and doctoral researcher whose practice investigates art as radical resistance and witness to the unraveling of modernity. Working across assemblage, mixed media, sculpture, and earth-responsive processes, she explores the systems that divide humans from the more-than-human world and transform living relationships into commodities.

Her work draws on arts-based critical autoethnography, posthuman feminist thought, and terrapsychology. Rather than claiming a position outside domination, Guillén examines her own participation in the structures she critiques. Her practice moves between making and reflection, grief and refusal, political provocation and attentive encounter.

Her ongoing investigations include Anthropocene Reliquaries: Offerings from the Age of Waste and material experiments with waste, paper, weathering, and ecological processes. She is currently pursuing doctoral study.
